Step To This is a romance-drama that celebrates the rich traditions of Chicago Style Steppin' and Swing-Out dancing. When accomplished attorney Tahj Wright meets seasoned Swing-Out dancer and beginner Chicago Style Stepper Jaylon Warren, an unexpected friendship grows into a heartfelt romance built on trust, respect, and the healing power of dance.
Set against the vibrant backdrop of music, culture, and community, Step To This showcases the elegance, history, and enduring spirit of two iconic dance traditions while telling a story about love, second chances, and finding your rhythm.

Toni Watkins resides in Dallas, TX fron Omaha, NE, she is an independent filmmaker, writer, and producer making her feature-film debut with the movie "Step To This." She is passionate about preserving the culture of Chicago Style Steppin' and Swing-Out dancing. Her work combines compelling storytelling with authentic performances, highlighting traditions and experiences that are often underrepresented on screen.
She developed the film to celebrate the music, movement, and relationships that define the dance community. Through authentic storytelling and memorable performances, it showcases the artistry and culture of and the gift of dance through a heartfelt romantic story.
She is committed to screenplays that entertain while preserving cultural history and inspiring audiences. She has written four screenplays and converted two of them into novels. She has honed her storytelling craft across multiple genres. She attended prestigious industry events, including the African American Black Film Festival and the American Pitch Fest. She was honored in the Omaha Music and Hall of Fame for her achievements. Also been a volunteer for film festivals in DBFF and DIFF.

Director Statement
"Step To This" began with a desire to preserve a culture that has brought people together for generations. Chicago Style Steppin' and Swing-Out Dancing are more than social dances—they represent community, respect, tradition, music, and human connection. Yet these vibrant dance cultures are rarely portrayed authentically in feature films.
As both the writer and director, I wanted to create a romantic story that would naturally introduce audiences to these dance communities without turning the film into a documentary. The romance serves as the emotional journey, while the dancing reflects the trust, communication, and relationships that develop both on and off the dance floor.
Authenticity guided every creative decision. I wanted experienced dancers, recognizable music, genuine social dance environments, and choreography that reflected the true spirit of the culture. My goal was for members of the Steppin' and Swing-Out communities to see themselves represented with honesty and respect while inviting new audiences to discover traditions they may never have experienced.
Beyond the dancing, Step To This explores healing, second chances, and the courage to open your heart after disappointment. It celebrates how shared passions can bridge differences, create lasting friendships, and sometimes lead to unexpected love.
I hope audiences leave the theater entertained, emotionally moved, and inspired—not only by the romance but also by the beauty, elegance, and enduring legacy of these dance traditions. If viewers are inspired to learn more about Chicago Style Steppin' or Swing-Out dancing, attend a dance class, or simply appreciate the importance of preserving cultural traditions, then this film has accomplished what I set out to do.
